At each Grimsby Author Series event, the featured authors give readings and talk about their latest books. This is followed by a question-and-answer period with the audience. Local wines and light snacks are served before the talks begin, and the evenings include door prize draws, a chance to purchase a copy of the featured titles, and a book signing by the authors.

This month the first author of the night, Marissa Stapley, began her talk by giving everyone a peek into her process. She unapologetically claimed, “I am really good at titles,” because in order to get her novels moving, the title needs to fully encompass the story. Her statement tests true in The Last Resort. This story is about a rigorous couples’ therapy retreat takes place at the luxurious Harmony Resort in the Mayan Riviera.
The second author of the night was Linden MacIntyre. Ninety years ago, Newfoundland’s Burin Peninsula faced a massive tsunami. This story scarcely heard of throughout Canadian History, is Linden MacIntyre’s tale to tell. At the age of 101, his mother helped him to fill in the details on his newest work The Wake. How? She was there.
