GBF Community Services is a non-profit organization that provides assistance to members of the community by providing compassionate support and material assistance. Here are 2 examples of “making a difference in the community” – a demonstration of helping hands in the community and the power of personal stories.

The Grimsby & District Lions Club annual holiday tradition is to lend GBF a hand with assembling 250 personal hygiene kits to be included in registered household Christmas Hampers. The many hands of Lions made light work. The Grimsby Lions surprised GBF Staff: Ashley and Roger, with a kind holiday card and a generous donation of $500 to purchase Christmas Hamper necessities. In addition, the Grimsby Lions sponsored two registered families to help make their Christmas extra special.

On Tuesday, November 19th, guest speakers Lisa Simone and Leanne Pocknell presented Addiction and Recovery: “A Lived Experience” at the Mental Health Speaker Series. Lisa and Leeanne both shared emotional and inspiring recovery stories of their personal experiences with addiction, treatment and recovery. Their personal stories brought awareness of the real struggles of addiction, the importance of utilizing treatment services and provided inspiration and hope to individuals and families affected by addiction and mental health.
