Humber Bay Sailing Centre is a keelboat sailing school and a boat sharing club for adults, within walking distance of the HBSCA community. This is an ideal place for people who want to learn to sail but who don’t have a boat.
BEGINNERS
The sailing school offers the Basic Keelboat Cruising course, taught over a five day, weeklong period or over two consecutive weekends. The popular Starter Package includes the Basic Keelboat course plus VHF Radio and Toronto Harbour Licence courses, plus a one month pass to the HBSC Boat Share Club where graduates can continue to develop their skills while being coached and mentored by more experienced sailors.
Mentoring programs include sail trim, spinnaker handling, anchoring, docking and undocking as well as continuing development of the skills necessary to become a competent and safe skipper.
The sailing school operates year round with on water courses offered during the sailing season such as Basic and Intermediate Cruising and the International Certificate of Competency (ICC) for those wishing to charter overseas.
FALL & WINTER
In fall and winter, the sailing school shifts to our waterfront classroom and offers a range of Club Seminars, Seminar Series and Theory Courses including diesel maintenance, Basic and Intermediate Coastal Navigation, marine weather, and sail trim theory.
The Boat Share Club offers members unlimited sailing from May through September on a variety of club-owned keelboats ranging in size from 24 to 34 feet. There are racing nights so members can continue to develop sail trimming skills in a friendly and competitive environment. Socially, the club offers dinner cruises and weekend flotillas to neighbouring yacht clubs on Lake Ontario. The club also has frequent social events over the course of the summer. Members are encouraged to make use of the deck and the BBQ and enjoy summer evenings on our private shoreline.
